Dr. Xiomara Cervantes-Gómez is a psychotherapist, researcher, and consultant at the interstices of psychoanalytic theory, cultural analysis, and social work.Based in Chicago, Dr. Cervantes-Gómez brings nearly two decades of scholarship and community engagement to her clinical practice and consulting work. She specializes in complex trauma, personality disorders, and the relational lives of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities — particularly those shaped by systemic violence and institutional harm.
Her approach is grounded in relational psychoanalysis and attachment theory, informed by queer and trans of color critique, and adapted through evidence-based modalities including DBT, CPT, and Prolonged Exposure. She is the author of Bottoms Up: Queer Mexicanness and Latinx Performance (NYU Press, 2024) and is currently pursuing a certificate in psychoanalysis from the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy.
Dr. Cervantes-Gómez works with individual, couples, and polycules for psychotherapy, clinical consultation, and offers training for professionals and organizations working at the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and mental health.
